4.MAIN EQUIPMENTS
Coal handling plant
Draft system
Boiler
Turbine
Condenser
5.COAL HANDLING PLANT
The function of coal handling plant is automatic feeding of coal to the boiler firnance.
A 200 MW plant may require around 2000 tons of coal daily.

6.DRAFT SYSTEM
The combustion in the boiler required supply of sufficient quantiti of air and removal of exhaust gases.
The circulation of air is caused by a difference in pressure known as draft.
A differential in draft is needed to cause flow of gases through the boiler setting.

7.TYPES OF DRAFT SYSTEM
1.Natural draft
2.Mechanical draft

8.BOILER
A boiler is a closed vessel in which water, under pressure,is converted into stream it is also known as stream generator.
A boiler is always designed to absorb maximum amount of heat released in the process of combustion.

10.TURBINE
11.The turbine converts heat energy of steam into mechanical energy and drives the generator.
12.CONDENSER
The condenser does the job of condesing the steam exhausted from turbine.
It helps in maintaining low pressure at the exhaust, thereby permitting expansion of steam in the turbine to a very low pressure.

13.LOSSES OF T.P.P
Heat loss:dry flue gases- 4.5%
Heat loss:moisture in fuel- 4.5%
Heat loss:combustible in coarse ash- 0.05%
Heat loss:combustible in dust- 0.25%
Heat loss:radiation and unaccounted- 0.25%

14.EFFICIENCY
The overall stations efficiency of a thermal plant is very low.
It is in the range 30% - 40% .
