Scheduling Of Operations Presentation Transcript
1.Scheduling of operations
2.Concept
Scheduling of operations uses a defined frame work to address issues pertaining to the use of available resources and delivering products and services as promised to the customers.

3.Scheduling is the process of rank ordering the jobs in front of each resource to maximize some chosen performance measure
4.Routing is the order in which the resources are used by jobs for processing
5.Sequencing is the ordering of operations of the jobs in the operating systems.
It is combination of routing and scheduling
It is combination of routing and scheduling
6.Dispatching is the administrative process of authorizing processing of jobs
7.Loading is a planning methodology using which; the resources in an operating system are assigned with adequate number of jobs during the planning horizon
8.Scheduling rules
Shortest processing time
Longest processing time
Earliest due date
Critical ratio (CR)
First cum first serve
Random order

10.Planning and controlling of operations
According to theory of constraints it is possible to increase the throughput even while reducing the operating expenses and inventory
Throughput = the amount of money generated by a firm through sales over a specific period of time
Theory of constraints talks about alternative methodologies for operational scheduling, these include 3 measures i.e. inventory, throughput and profit

11.Synchronous manufacturing
It is a specific application of theory of constraints to scheduling and operational control of manufacturing systems
Bottleneck; any resource whose capacity is equal to or less than the demand placed on it
Non-bottleneck; any resource whose capacity is more than the demand place on it
Any resource that can deviate the actual product flow from the planned flow is known as Capacity Constrained Resource (CCR)
